An upturned hand-painted porcelain cup with a blank base beside a magnifying glass

In February 2025 a Brazilian content creator posted a video from a restaurant in Thailand. Her coffee came in a cup identical to one from the Marquesa collection of Tania Bulhões, a Brazilian luxury brand of porcelain and fragrance, where that cup cost R$ 210. Only the signature on the bottom was missing. That same month the brand withdrew four porcelain collections and offered customers an exchange or a refund.

This week the same brand opened a R$ 70 million complex in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, where it now decorates porcelain and makes perfume itself. The cup and the factory are the same story.

The full article follows it from a 2023 acquisition in Limoges to the new plant in Minas, reads the company's own explanation of what went wrong, and closes with the questions a European company should ask before a customer's phone asks them.
